I've really been slacker in my 3rd year. I rarely studied at all hence my poor shelf results. Now I am worried and rightly so. I have Psychiatry and Surgery left in my rotation. I have these questions.

1) I have basically studied the whole Psychiatry material after 1 week in the rotation. I am just doing questions for that rotation for the remaining 5 weeks left in Psych. I plan on using the remaining time to just study MTB and do Psych questions on U world. Is it Ok if I start studying CK material now since I have more time in this rotation?

2) I also plan to use my Surgery rotation to continue studying IM material by going over MTB & Kaplan with U world questions. Is that OK? The reason is that I heard that alot of questions in the Surgery shelf is basically IM all over again. .
3) I have 6-7 weeks post my Surgery rotation to study for my CK. Any suggestions? Again, I want thank everyone for their input

So you're 3-4 months away from the test, if I'm reading your post correctly? With 6-7 weeks of dedicated, no-other-obligations Step 2 study time?

If so, I wouldn't recommend studying anything other than IM until you get to your dedicated prep time - especially since it's true that the surgery shelf is basically IM: The GI Version. Peds and OB/GYN are too heavy on memorization to start now - you'd be at risk for forgetting what you started with. Your 6 weeks of dedicated Step 2 prep should be more than enough time to review and solidify those subjects.

If you've really been doing poorly on shelf exams, taking the next 3-4 months to really hammer down the basic IM concepts that are tested over and over again. (MTB is great at focusing in on these) will give you the foundation you need to use your dedicated study time wisely.
