I don't know why but I tend to remember passages a lot more when I mumble very quietly. My RC scores have been all over the place (18-23) and I'm wondering if tomorrow when I take the test, will me mumbling very quietly to myself be distracting? Are there students directly next to me that would be able to hear me? Is this dependent on the testing center?

Let me know what you guys think!

Imagine your own cubicle space in an office. I've taken the test twice & both times I was seated in my own cubicle-like space.. but there were people right next to me lol random story but this girl on my left was typing away at her keyboard... Actually more like slamming her fingers against the keyboard lol. I tried using the noise cancellation headphones (whatever they're called) provided by the testing center, but that didn't help @ all. It was so annoying.. And pretty distracting. Lol. You're not allowed to speak once you enter the testing room so... I wouldn't mumble 🤔

Very similar to this

Oh okay 🙁. Thanks for the response! Is it weird that my comprehension shoots up if I hear myself read it? lol

As the above poster mentioned, there are noise-cancelling headphones provided to everyone at quite a lot of test centers, but that doesn't mean everyone necessarily uses it, so mumbling could potentially distract someone right next to you who doesn't prefer to use headphones...

No, it's not weird. 🙂 Sometimes I find myself getting really distracted when I don't read aloud. So reading aloud helps me to focus on the material in front of me.

The more attention you pay to the distractions, the bigger they will get. Just get use to the noises beforehand during the other sections. Once habituated, the noises shouldn't bother you.

I think OP is asking whether HE/SHE will distract others when mumbling...not whether the noises will bother the OP.

I am the same way! When I needed to really focus, I actually ended up "speaking" the words silently...as in, forming the words, but not utilizing my vocal cords. It helped me focus without being a distraction to other test takers. Maybe that could work for you?
