Hello All,

It appears that George Washington University is still accepting applications for their post-bacc program. Has anyone applied yet or have been interviewed?

It looks like it comes with conditional acceptance to the medical school, and is a fairly small group of students.

Does anyone know about the Ashburn area as well?

Thanks All!

Just sent in my app - hopefully I'll hear back. Their next interview date is early May. Anyone else know anything or is looking into this program? Thanks.

I hear this program is pretty good. It's just new so there's not much information about it. I was and maybe am still considering applying. Anyone have any info?

I applied and was accepted to the 2016-17 cohort--I have since declined the offer. The current cohort (the first year of the program) is 10 people; the next cohort will be no more than 15. It is nearly $40,000 for the year, which for the first year of a program is hard to justify. While the facilities are brand new, Ashburn is an hour outside of D.C., so if you're looking for an urban environment, this is not it. They have a linkage agreement with GW and have 2 folks in their current cohort who linked (they told me this at the interview).

Was the small class size an advantage or was it too small in your mind? The $40k is for the whole program, which is a year, but it will give you all of the prereqs. I sorta like that it's in a suburb - less distractions and easier to get out of during the weekends.

Did she mention why only 2 students linked? Was this a matter of choice, or did the others not have the grades and mcat to get in? Either way, 2/10 isn't too bad compared to some of the other linkages I have read about, which seem nonexistent.

It was too small of a cohort for me, and you can do your prereqs for quite a bit less at other programs (UVA is around $32,000, Bryn Mawr is about the same and Thomas Jefferson is less than $30,000). In terms of the environment, it wasn't what I was looking for but the students I've spoken to really like the location for the exact reason you mentioned--fewer distractions. I'm not sure if only the 2 chose to link or if they were the only 2 who qualified (contingent on MCAT scores). But yes, 2/10 for a new program is a good stat.

Thanks for the info. Did you get any idea of the difficulty of the program? I just spoke to the coordinator, and she said I have a good chance at an interview, so your info is a huge help.

Also, curious - what is your plan now? Did you get into other programs, or are you doing a DIY postbacc?

I applied and interviewed. Honestly my impression of the program overall was very good. It seems they have really figured out what needs to happen to get these kids into med school. Classes are tailored specifically to focus on the most useful information for the MCAT and the small cohort is designed to keep everyone on track. Not to mention they are located at the brand new GW science campus which is fantastic. The only problem is that it is a relatively new program and students are forced to take an expensive leap of faith for a program that doesn't quite have a reputation yet. Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

Thanks for this. Yeah, my real concern is that it is new, so no track record. At the very least, they help you get your prereqs done in 12 months, and you don't have to take classes with undergrads.

Were you accepted into the program?

I wonder why it is so much more expensive than the other Post-baccs??

Just found out I was accepted into this program. My only issue right now is figuring out whether this is worth $40k.

And since it's only one year old, there isn't much of a track record. This will be a tough decision to make.

Do you know if there are any stats available for this program?
