Haircut for interview
Started by angryazn88
A guy at my first interview had his hair done in a buzz cut. No one seemed to react adversely.
The only reason I'm asking about this is because I have never seen a doctor with a buzz cut unless they were african american. All the asian doctors I've seen had a decent amount of hair on their heads haha.A guy at my first interview had his hair done in a buzz cut. No one seemed to react adversely.
Anyone in medical school have classmates with buzz cuts?

I went to my PCOM interview with a shaved head (#2 on most clippers). I plan on going to all my interviews with a shaved head--I don't think it looks unprofessional. I could see it being inappropriate if it was Bic'd...that's a bit much.
I'm sure during your 20+ years of living you've had a nice hairstyle. Just pick something that is clean and professional looking. I don't think doctors care what you look like (within reason). If you're not sure ask your friend, gf, family member, etc.
3 out of the 4 docs in my ER have buzz cuts. I wouldn't worry about the hair cut as long as it clean and professional

My hair is a 4 on top and 2 on the sides... pretty short. Went into AZCOM with a fresh cut and came out with an acceptance. As long as its clean cut and you are confident you will be fine. That said, if you've never had it that short before and cut it off right before the interview you may be self conscious about it. Just something to think about.
I had the buzz cut for all my interviews. I think somewhere around a 4 on the top. Letting my hair grow now, I might not cut it until May or June. Since I am done with interviews and know that next year for school I will be keeping it between a 3 and 5. Nice thing about buzz cuts is they are easy to maintain.
This thread was the ultimate face-palm moment. Are you serious?!?!? You are worried about having a 2-guard vs a 3-guard cut for your interview? Of course they will care if you show up with a rainbow spiked mohawk but this conversation is just ridiculous. Do you think the admission committee is going to meet and say "Well, I really liked him but you know, his hair was 3/32 of an inch too short." ?
RELAX! Go to your interview, take a deep breath and just be yourself. Pay attention to the crap that matters on your interview day like showing up on time and making sure that you are friendly to everyone.

thanks guys. im just freaking out because i have too much time on my hands while waiting for interview haha
Certain "buzz" cuts are clean and professional. I don't see how it would adversely affect you considering a lot of Docs are sporting them anyway. I'm ex-military and still keep my hair short and neat, so I think that an interviewer would probably already know that about me by the time I had the interview and be able to put two and two together.
Nothing like a buzz cut screams "I'm too awesome and too focused to waste time with hair." 😎 Contrast that with showing up looking like Justin Bieber (I think this new long hairstyle fad looks lazy) and then consider the advantage...
