  1. Pre-Dental
I have four interviews over the next four weeks and I'm trying to decide whether or not to cut my hair. It's not quite to the shoulders (8-10 inches long) and I push it back/part it and tuck mostly behind the ears. I take good care of it and it looks fine, but I'm strongly considering cutting it because I don't want anything to make me appear less professional.

One of my interviews is at Loma Linda, probably the most conservative dental school in the world, and I don't want to hurt my chances in any way.

Any ideas or opinions?

That depends on two things:

1. If you are a lady, and single, pls send pics.

2. If you are a guy, you're a damn weirdo for making this post.

Seriously though, I don't think they'd care less about your hair, as long as

everything else appears fine.👍

If you're a guy (which I'm guessing you are since you think shoulder length is long) I'd say cut it. It shouldn't matter, but looking professional does always help regardless of what should or should not matter.

I am a guy. I don't know how this is a weird post. I am in school and am letting my hair grow out. I'm just wondering if it will count against me during the interview.

i remember my pre-dent advisor saying to me to look as professional as possible. i also have hair a bit longer than usual for guys but am going to cut it before interviews jus tot look more professional.
Some of the interviewers could be some older old school guys and they may judge you based on your hair being longer than normal. Cutting your hair is a small price to pay to be a dentist. B/c my pre-dent advisor also said that after youre in dental school you can do whatever you want, youre in and theyre stuck with you. i also have a beard that unfortunately i will cut off as well but if i get in dental school i will surely grow the hair and beard back.

To the OP: yes cut your hair... how many male DS professors, adcoms, and even students do you see with long hair.

I wouldn't necessarily say you have to cut your hair, but I would go to the barber for a trim. Just be sure on interview day you don't look like you just rolled out of bed.

I also wear a trim beard around all the time. I'm still considering whether or not to cut it off for interviews.... Deff get a hair trim, even if it's relatively short. I am.. Hopefully we'll get a female interviewer, and get more than just an interview .. 😀:meanie:

Thanks for the advice. I'm definitely gonna cut it. My wife would have probably made me cut it anyway. I live in sunny SoCal so hopefully I don't have any strange tan lines for the interviews...

I would say cut your hair, you'll look more sharp and professional.

I was thinking about the same thing a while ago. I just realized if I comb my hair to the side, I look too young, so I'm just going to style it like most people do and be myself lol.

People... you are going to become professionals. If you can't decide for yourself if you should cut your own hair, how are you going to run a business and treat people on your own....

Should I cut my hair? Should I wear a watch? What should I eat before the interview? Man...

👍 Totally agree with this. I didn't know SDN was in the business of being everyone's mom.

nahhhh.... some ppl don't know better. they're really nervous, and don't want to screw up a life altering event.... thats what this site is for. so if you don't like it, tufff noogiies....
and if you think you're too old to ask questions or have a good time, well then i hope you enjoy your boring, dull, do it yourself practice.:scared:

Wow, if an interview renders you so nervous you can't decide whether to get your hair cut or not then I'd hate to see what you're like the first time you have to drill into someone's teeth!

I mean there are some great questions asked on here and then there are some that just make me go :smack:

Obviously the ''life altering event" isn't if they cut their hair or not, its if they get accepted to the school they want to go to, if they receive scholarships or not, or if they get into dental school at all. So I would say yes, even most the stupid questions are valid. If you still don't agree with me, enjoy the chuckle and move on.

I thought cutting your hair and getting a trim was the same thing? 😕

OP: If you have to ask whether you should cut your hair because you doubt it looks "professional" enough, chances are you should.

lol some chuckles are too good to ignore

Wow. Intense flaming action. Update: I cut my hair... By the way, I agree with orgo, since when did thinking out loud about anything become a problem?

I agree with the thinking out loud statement, so instead of wasting space out in the main forum area with another stupid "I'm just bored so I'll fire up a thread about my personal hygiene/appearance" post, I'll just ask my question here. So when I'm walking into one of my interviews...do you think I should put one foot in front of the other??

Obviously at interviews you want a professional/clean cut look. If that involves getting your hair cut then do it. But I guess if you need complete strangers to tell you that you need to look presentable then by all means fire away with another brain buster...we're all here to help (unfortunately we can't hold your hand when you're actually in an interview)

PS: I know you might already be wondering this...but you might want to shave before your interview too 👍

Thank you, Dud. Very wise. Good luck with life.

I believe you know the answer to that questions already when you brought up the Loma Linda statement.
