Has anyone had a problem with their hair falling out due to the formaldehyde in gross anatomy lab? I started med school about a month ago and since then, my hair's been falling out like crazy. Apparently, im not the only one in my class, several of my classmates said they're having the same problem. Any advice?

Now's the time to shave your head and start a new trend. Seriously, gross anatomy will be done soon and hair will grow back. If not, you adjust to the hair loss because you don't have many alternatives. You can tell your instructor that your hair is falling out and see if they have any suggestions. Also, see how many of those folks are completely bald. After all, the anatomy lab folks are around formaldehyde day in and day out for years.

My guess is that stress may have more to do with your hair loss than the fumes in gross anatomy.

That's weird. Just to be sure, you're not, like, drinking the stuff, are you?

It happened to several of my classmates. Its Ok since hair is not necessary, but it will hurt with certain things, such as scoring college chicks.

Here is a picture of your future:

Correlation implies causation, or something like that.

F me. I haven't even hit the gross lab and my hair is already starting to recede. Three weeks in medical school.

Don't blame anatomy lab. Blame your faulty genetics.

You probably are going gray too.

By the end of MIV, you're going to look like this:

post hoc ergo propter hoc

drop that on your attendings someday...they will appreciate it

Heh, my hair's going to. I wish it were all due to anatomy lab...

But it probably doesn't help. I got some 'cadaver runoff' on my bare arm the other day, didn't really notice or wipe it off, and I had a gigantic rash about half an hour later. It's definitely caustic stuff.

I love the Thicken Up product. There nothing out there that will permanently change the thickness of your hair, but using the right products will strengthen your hair, making it easier to add volume .
