Hi DMDs',

I have recently been accepted to dental school and will start in the fall.
I have been working as a receptionist at a dental office; answering phones, filing, faxing.... and have been having mild pain in my elbows and hands ALREADY! Is this something to be concerned about going into dentistry?

please help 😕

It is a possibility to be concerned if you use poor hand postitioning and posture. But first, you might want to visit your physician and find out if there is anything wrong with your wrists and elbows to be concerned about that you might want to pay attention to in the future.

When I worked as a receptionist, I started having back problems, and narrowed it down to the crappy office chairs and my poor posture.
Have you narrowed down the reason why your elbows and hands hurt? Like the Navy DDS said, is it because of posture and positioning?

Good luck!

As Navy said, you should get in touch with your physician for any concerns you may have. Having said that, SDN isn't the place to be asking for medical advice, so I'm closing this thread.
