trying to decide which one to put as my number 3. interested in hem/onc but not committed to it. imo downsides of the programs are:

harbor ucla - ghetto, dangerous, and overworked, heard an applicant got mugged...
olive view - location sucks, sure there's no traffic, but i'd rather live close to hospital than commute 20-30 miles everyday
kaiser la - love the location, but it's kaiser... will it close doors to fellowships? esp since they do not offer hem/onc fellowship
ucsd - rather be in la, also residents do not seem happy

hope i dun have to go down to #3, but i think it's a good possibility that i may... please share ur wisdom!

did the UCSD residents you spoke to give any reason/indication for why they weren't happy?

what are your top 2 by the way so I can see what you are comparing them to..

Harbor "ghetto/dangerous?" Maybe San Diego would be more your speed, Opie.

Harbor is in Torrance, which is not a dangerous area. Not rich like UCLA or Cedars, but it is middle class.

haha yeah, I didn't get the feeling that Torrance was ghetto, just a bit old. good Japanese and Korean restaurants in the area! i guess it was a little off-putting how the hospital had a metal detector at the entrance, but it didn't bother me THAT much.

san diego -- not as much as going on as in LA but still seems like a lovely city. barely any traffic.. i was worried initially because i'd heard from so many people about how malignant the program was, but i didn't get that sense at all during the interview dinner and interview day. also talked to a resident there who's an alumnus from my school, and he loves it there.

What are your top 2 choices?

I'm having similar problems ranking these programs.
