This is a tough problem.
let the frequencies of a pair of autosomal allele A and a be represented by Pm and Qm in males and Pf and Qf in females. given Qf = 0.6 and Qm = 0.2. determine the equilibrium gene frequencies in both sexas after one generation of random mating.

Are we assuming that when they produce the first generation both female and male are heterozygotes and produce 1:2:1 ratio of AA:Aa:aa??

Therefore I just took for females Qf=a=.6 Pf=A=.4 and for males Qm=a=.2 Pm=A=.8

If they mates and produces first generation offspring would you just assume they would be heterozygous and basically use p^2 + 2pq + q^2 = 1

To visualize this I just did a punnette square with these allelic frequencies for both males and females and crossed them...

So I got: For genes of AA=.32, for Aa= .56, and for aa= .12

I dunno if this is correct it was a hard problem haha. But let me know if it is correct or wrong please thanks

The answer that you have...shouldn't those be in equilibrium? meaning that p + q =1 & p2 + 2pq + q2 = 1.

your AA = 0.32 = p2, therefore p = (0.32)^(1/2) = 0.56
aa = 0.12 = q^2, therefore q = (0.12)^ (1/2) = 0.35
If you have that, then p + q is not equal to 1...hence they are not in equilibrium right??? or am I missing something here?
