Harvard Extension School?

Can someone tell me just what this is? Is it seperate from the actual Harvard College? If you graduate from HES, do you get a Harvard diploma or is it an HES diploma? Is this relationship analogous to "branch" campuses? For example, the University of Michigan's main campus is in Ann Arbor, it is difficult to get into. But UofM also has campuses at Flint and Dearborn, anyone with a functioning brain can get into them. They are not one and the same.

Can someone explain how this works? Does HES carry any of the "prestige" that Harvard does, or is it just a regular school that accpets regular joes?

Even this average joe managed to find the search button and get accepted to HES so it can't be all that hard 🙄

-Both phys and chem are taught by profs that teach the courses at the college (same pace/material as well)
-I haven't really worked with the administration of the HCP at all, but I've heard great things about them
-At an information session I went to for the premed society at HES, two people, one dental, one med, both said that faculty interviewers knew of the program at HES and had very positive perceptions of it.

The way the program works, I guess essentially anyone can get in, but you've got to work your ass off to stay there. I've only got a month under my belt, but if you've got any questions, feel free to ask.

Hi there,
I'm considering applying to the HES program- would love to hear about your experience there as it unfolds. What is the average class size and about how many are in the program? What about average age and background of the students? Does it seem to be as cut throat as many have said it would be?

I just happened to come across this thread... I never ever post... i am a student... at the HES... and yes it is a backdoor way to an elite school.

But it is worth it. Yes it is as hard as the regular classes and demanding as the regular classes, yes you get a degree that says Harvard university.... however you cannot say that you are a harvard college student... as you are affiliated with harvard extension...but yes you can say that you went to harvard because eventually if you follow through all of the commitments you HAVE to move to cambridge...

and yes like the poster above mentioned it is not THAT easy... they do let basically anyone in but the clases weed people out. So in the end you get only people that really want to be there ... but in anycase not everyone takes classes to become a doctor.... keep in mind that there are G.I's, ex officer and other people taking one or two classes at the school just to upgrade and then they move on to another school.. doing well at the school opens up door for sure.

The classes are good the teachers are excellent thus far... top notch...I dunno what to say.. maybe I am late.. posting this but anyways...


the class sizes for some of the classes ...like the core classes are capped... and are kept small and that is cool... so you get more attention.. some others.. the sky is the limit because you have the internet and people like me view and take classes through the net... watching videos...taking notes and looking at the slides that prof put up...also participating in board discussions and real time discussions... overall is a really cool experience and very good.

the profs seem to be ok... i am doing an undergrad degree ... so yea... I like it so far and I am hoping to move to cambridge one day... in the near future.

we are in exams right now..so that is why I am up and writting.
