What can people tell me about these schools? These schools have my attention during the application. Without going into detail I have a strong application with strong DAT.

This is what I've heard about particular schools from veteral oral surgeons / deans / dentists:

- Michigan - Arrogant...big blue...big college experience...old facilities...strong research potential...competitive. Heard students in general aren't that happy.

- Harvard - first 2 years with med students, no grades, almost certainty to earn a residency after 4 years. 5th mandatory or not? probably tough but reputation if accepted seems difficult to turn down.

- UOP - 3 years, strong staff, strong happy student pop, not sure how they do on boards...san fran...i'd be broke but my wife would sure be happy...

- UNC - small town college experience like Michigan. Great environment, strong teachers, happy students. Great part of the country.

- Minnesota - similar to UNC / Michigan but with terrible cold winters.

Appreciate both positive and negative comments please.

(Note, please don't comment on the difficulty of getting into the school, instate/outofstate, etc...just comments on what it's like to go there if you do or if you know someone who does. what you love, what you hate) THX

OK, here's my icecream scoop to you... Pick the school that has the cheapest tuition since dental education ain't cheap. Forget about "Ivy League" status and so forth... Forget about specialty rate too. All school will make you a competent or incompetent dentist so minimize your debt as you will thank me later. DP

People are quite happy and facilities are renovated. I love it here and people are so nice you will freak. I have yet to see anything negative about U of M or hear negative from a current students. everyone I know is happy with decision they made but find it out yourself. Good luck.

yeah michigan has nice facilities, the building itself isn't brand new like some of the other ones i've seen but it is still really nice and the classrooms, preclinic, wet labs, and patient clinics are all very modern especially the preclinic which was completely renovated only about 3 years ago. you owe it to yourself to at least come to the interview to look around 🙂

happiness wise, i think most people have had good times as well as difficult times here, but no matter where you go, how much you enjoy dental school will have a lot to do with your attitude and the energy you put into it.

Pacific has been great. The preclinic is state-of-the-art. The city is fantastic. The students are great. The average on Part 1 of the boards is 87%. No specialty programs stealing our patients (except ortho...but they can have 'em). And, 3 years to earn a DDS ... only 20 months to go.
