hi everyone. here's my situation:

i just received an interview invite from Harvard and am pysched because it's actually the first invite I've received (submitted AADSAS a bit late). However, I've done some research on the school and after discussing some things with family, I've decided that it's not where I want to spend my next four years studying dentistry. The problem is that I've already scheduled an interview date and was wondering if there would be terrible repercussions if I cancel (I've actually heard stories of them blacklisting :scared: people...any truth?).

any feedback is appreciated! thanks!

go to the intnerview and use it as refrence for comparing other schools.

Or, alternatively, if you want to cancel then cancel. There aren't any repercussions. The only negative thing would be if you didn't notifity them and then didn't show up.

But if you call them and explain your situation, they'll be fine with putting somebody else in your place. Just let them know ASAP, and you'll be no worse for the wear.

May we know some details why you decided against Harvard?

This is your FIRST invite for an interview and you want to turn it down???

Dude, GO! Even if you don't end up going to Harvard, at the very least you will get to see for the first time how a dental school looks like and how an interview works (and make subsequent interviews easier for you).

Besides, if the interview turns out well and you are accepted, at least you will have somewhere to go to come Fall if by some strange fate you got rejected at other schools (probability of that happening is low I know, but look at it as an insurance policy.)

If you already had like 5 interviews then you can cancel without much second thought.

I know it sounds kinda strange, but I have a friend who didn't get into any dental schools this year but to Harvard. I know it's sounds crazy but it's true. I don't know what to infer from that to your situation but you should probably look into why you don't want to go there real good before you cancel anything. Good luck with the rest of the application process

First of all congratulation! My game plan for this application process was to attend every interview until I received my first acceptance. Once I got an acceptance, then I could think about trying to save money. This would only work if you applied a bit late. I applied in mid September, and my first interview was in mid Dec. So, the school was able to give me word on my acceptance only 3 day after the interview.

Once you are accepted they you can safely be choosey on where you will interview. As other said above, it would be good at least to gain some interviewing experience, and some base to judge other schools.

I think you should interview there, and steal someone else's spot; you know take the one interview that someone else has been preparing their entire life for because you want to be polite. Sure, that makes sense. Let me inject some common sense into you. What does it matter if they blacklist you since you don't want to attend their school anyway? If you are concerned that they will blacklist you then you should also be concerned that they may call you fatty behind your back.

I think you should go for it.
Yes, it is quite a hassel and costly to travel to Boston,
but it will be a worthy experience.
First of all, you getta be trained to go through Harvard interview to prepare for your future interviews.
Also, if you choose to go, you will see what Harvard can give you. At least then, you dont have to rely on rumor but solid evidence to turn down the school, right?
You should seriously think about this decision.

what do you mean they can blacklist you? What they are going to call other dent schools and tell them not to take you (doubt it)? Even if you scheduled an interview and didn't show, there is nothing they can do to you, just don't expect an acceptance letter from them. But there is no reason for any of thise, just call and say no if you don't want, but in my opinion u should check it out.

Hey Serge Columbia is going to call Stony Brook and tell them you missed the interview without calling them.

ha ha and UPENN is going to call buffalo and send u on ur way back to school

Hi all,
Here is what one my friend did for their medical school. He got an interview and it was his first interview ever in his life and he went really unprepared but it turn out that he did well and it was good experience and he actually got accepted there. he also got into University of Michigan and Michigan State University and he is michigan resident so the tuition is cheaper so he went to Umich and turn down the Harvard. So remember you can Turn Down the Harvard tooooo. Is actually fun to turn down the harvard then any other school because they are too piky.
Just something I wanted to say!!

Those of you who turned down NYU better beware. Because NYU will call Penn or any other dental school you got into and tell them not to accept you.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

correction: i also got an interview scheduled later this month for columbia
just slipped my mind 'cause i've been thinking about this harvard interview so much...
a few reasons for me deciding against harvard include financial and personal reasons: after doing much research on the school, i'm not happy with the curriculuum (with clnical experience not being introduced until the 3rd year)...and in the financial aspect, my family is NOT ok with me going to any schools outside of CA (actually they suggested i only apply to LA and SC) and is therefore not willing to support me financially with any out-of-state interviews (they reason that if i don't get into any CA schools then it's better if i just take a year off)...albeit i've saved up some $$$ but it's not much...at most for probably three out-of-state interviews...so why not save up in the event i get more invites from other schools?

p.s. the inquiry about the whole blacklisting issue was because i've heard about it from several people...so to a few of you..no need to be mean about it.

I wasn't trying to be mean, i really didn't understand what you meant by blacklisting in this case.

NYU sucks, why would they do that. Stupid NYU wants all the money I guess. I am not even gonna apply now that you told me. Thanks
