Hello everyone I am Mishel. I am currently a High school senior. And will graduate at the age of 16 As I am graduating I have completed an associates degree and took Dental Assiting CTE classes at my High school where I have received a Dental assisting certificate and took the NELDA examination. After that I have already accumulated enough college credits, and will attend my local university to finish one year with a bachelors in biology. After that I will take a gap year and do a masters in biology. I currently reside in the State of Idaho. My dream career is an OMFS surgeon. And I want to attend Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Hopefully after bachelors my GPA will be a 3.65.

What are my chances ?

Welcome to the forums.

Can you tell us how much experience you have had shadowing or working with dentists? How would you overcome the age requirements?

It's too early and naive to focus on just one dental school to attend. Dental schools like to have classes that reflect their general region, and Idaho applicants are preferred at University of Washington (WWAMI program). Maybe you want to attend Harvard for their OMFS residency, which is also an option, but you have to prove yourself academically.

I am open to other schools and Harvard isn’t my only option, but it is my top choice. In about 2 weeks I will start shadowing dentists. And should receive around 40 hours, once my program is completed. But throughout university I will also do more shadowing hours.

Start by shadowing dentists. Don't pigeonhole yourself into something you know little about.
As I have mentioned I have already started taking dental assisting classes to know more about and part of that program comes dental shadowing hours.

Why is it your top choice? Are you going to be a DA at an OMFS clinic (oral surgery assistant)? What about dental anesthetist/anesthesiologist?

You also need to get to college, have more clinical and community service experience, and complete some research. You also need to know why you want dentistry instead of medicine; OMFS is extremely challenging as many programs are at least 6 years long after you do 4 years of undergrad and 4 years of dental school. What do your mentors think? More importantly, WHY do you want to be an OMFS?
