Has anyone been invited for an interview very late, like in March?

Hey all

I took the Aug 20th exam and bombed it

I am planning on re-taking it on Jan 25th. Scores will not be up until Feb 25th

Do you think I still have a chance of getting an interview at some DO schools.

I plan to call all the schools I want to apply and tell them to put my application on hold before they get my second MCAT scores back. (first score was 18 =( )

What do you guys think?

Please offer some suggestion, or those who were accepted late please tell me how that happened!

Interviewed at Touro-NY on MAR 24TH and NYCOM on Mar 27th. I was accepted at both.

awesome! do you mind me asking what your stats and EC's were?

Of course people have had interviews and acceptances that late, but ideally its not a good idea. There are less spots available for you to compete over, then lets say being complete in October or November due to rolling admissions.

I know but that's my only choice =(

do you think I should formally request that my application be put on hold in each school until my Jan scores come out? I am afraid if they look at it now with the 18 I got on the Aug 20th exam, they will reject me right away. What do you think?

Yea, just tell them you are re-taking it January. They should give you a look later on. Good LUCK

If its your only choice and you want to be in medicine, well then I guess you answered your own question. I interviewed in late Feb, and got accepted. I know that we have some people in our class who interviewed in March, not many maybe one or two, but still they made it. Keep fighting, and Good Luck.

I interviewed at Touro-NY last year at the end of April. I'd venture to say it was a different circumstance last year, seeing as they didn't even send out applications until November and started interviewing in January-February (I don't know exactly when). You could definitely get some interviews in March, but I think you're making a wise decision to get the applications in and asking them to hold them until your January release.

I remember replying to you in a different post about this. Make sure you tell the admissions directors about your circumstance and why you did poorly the first time on the MCAT. An 18 is going to a blemish on your application no matter what, but if you can knock out of the MCAT the second time around at least it won't be a pot mark.

A very close friend of mine wasn't planning to apply last year. As an afterthought he put in an application late. He interviewed April 22nd and is an M1 now.

There is hope 🙂

A random (and perhaps unwelcome) thought:
To get an 18 requires either extenuating circumstances, complete lack of preparation, or difficulty with that type of test. Two latter two are things that are quite difficult to sort out in a few months. If you do poorly on round two of the MCAT I think it unlikely you will go to medical school. If you have good reason for thinking that round two will yield a markedly different score, go for it! If you are just hot to get that application in and don't want to squander the hard work you've already done this year, I would at least consider waiting until next year.
JMHO

Either way, good luck 🙂 This process is SO frustrating isn't it?

well yes I think round two of the MCAT will prove that I am capable of doing well

First time around was just not the best day for me

I am going to take it in Jan and see what happens

do you think I should hold my secondary's until I actually take the exam and then send them in if I felt really good about it or not if I feel it went horribly (and I void)??? I would overnight it and I am assuming it wouldn't matter whether or not my secondary's are in just as long as it gets there before my MCAT score.

what do you guys say?
