Any thoughts? Has anyone used it in preparation for the ABSITE? Have any recent residency graduates used it to review for their general surgery written or oral boards?

Here is the author, Hratch L. Karamanoukian, MD, a CT surgeon out of Buffalo, NY:

i used it as a 3rd year studying for my surgery shelf. i thought it was very good. but i'm from buffalo and loved working with karamanoukian so maybe i'm biased.

The short story, I found this review to be useless, low quality, and a total waist of money.

Here is a longer story. The content of this review really did not reflect the shelf exam I took. This review has many anatomy and blood supply questions which I knew are not on the self exam even before I took it. What they are doing in this supposedly shelf exam review is a mystery to me.

The format of the questions in surgeryshelf.com is very different from the shelf exam. Most questions surgeryshelf.com are one liners and shelf exam questions are long cases. Pre-test questions are a good example of the format you can expect on the surgery shelf exam.

From the technical point of view this website is in the early 90s. The question and the answer are on the same page, you can see the ansewer when you are reading the question. It does not keep track of which questions you answered correctly, so you have no good idea of how well you are doing. It does not keep track which quesions you have answered so if you do not go through all the questions in one shot be ready to spend time to find the spot where you left off.
