Hi everyone. I hope that everyone is doing well with their medical school applications. I was just wondering if anyone has received a secondary from Drew (Drew/UCLA Medical Education Program) yet? I know that the new application cycle just started but I was wondering if anyone had heard back from Drew yet. Please post your information here. Thank you and good luck to all of you with the application process. 😀

I didn't get one, but I'm curious to know if they screen based on URM status or other factors.

When I applied and interviewed at Drew last year, they said that not everyone gets a secondary application. They base getting a secondary application on a number of factors, which includes one's committment and experiences of working with underserved communities, which is the mission of the school. Hope that answers your question. Good luck!!! 🙂

Oh, you interviewed last year but didn't make it in?

Its a very small program right?

I've got 4.5 years experience working with the underserved and plan to devote my life to it, but don't they also prefer URMs? I think only like 5% of the student body is Caucasian right?

It is a small program that admits about 24 students per entering class.
The people that they do admit have one thing in common: dedication, committment and extensive experiences/knowledge of working with underserved communities in a variety of contexts.

To learn more about the school, go to: www.cdrewu.edu

The website can tell you more about the school, its admissions policies and its unique mission. Also, you can look at the interview section of SDN and do a search of old threads and learn alot about Drew. Good luck!!!

any news from anyone out there?😀

nothing from drew yet. i have heard that they can be very slow so i would not be worried about it yet. i hope i get one... it is one of my top choices since i want to work with the underserved. if anyone gets news please post 🙂

I got a card in the mail just confirmed the receipt of my AMCAS app....

Thanks for the posts azpremed and DoctorKevin......I also got a postcard from Drew today saying that they got my AMCAS application........good luck and keep the news coming!!!

hey voltron,

i got the card in the mail today. let the waiting continue 🙂

5% of the entering class of 24 is Caucasian? That means only one person! How about Asian?

I know two Asians who applied to Drew last year and didn't get in. They're both doing an advanced bio program at Chicago Finch now. I wonder how many of those 24 are Hispanic or African?

I guess it all depends on the # of people who apply to the program. It is a special program designed for individuals who have a strong desire and committment to working with and in underserved communities, both urban and rural.

Dr. Kevin,

Although they do accept many URM's, the most important thing is to have EXTENSIVE experience with the underserved. It seems that you have that, so I am pretty sure you will receive a secondary.

i applied two years ago, with 3 years of tutoring with the underserved and only a couple of months of clinical volunteer work with this population and received a secondary, and I am not a URM...
good luck!!

I had the same misconception that you had to be a urm to get in, but I found that to be wrong. I myself not being a urm, like stressedout said commitment to the underserved is most important. In my class of 24 there are 4 asians and 5 caucasians, there might be more I probably forgot somebody.

Thanks for clearing that up Deuce 007MD. BTW folks, I emailed Dr. Miller and he said that Drew would begin sending secondaries out mid September. Hope that information helps! Good luck!!!🙄 🙄 🙄
