Has anyone received an official secondary from U. of Washington MSTP?

I submitted my U. of Washington pre-secondary online on July 6. For over a month, my status was "thank you for submitting your application." Now for over a week, it's been "your application is undergoing an initial screening for competitiveness." Is anyone else in the same boat as me right now? Has anyone been given the official secondary yet, or been declined it?

(My AMCAS has been verified for over a month, and my VirtualEvals packet was already sent to U. of Washington three weeks ago...)

I just got my supplementary MSTP application notification via email yesterday. I submitted the preliminary on 8/3.

lol I submitted my initial application on 7/13 and still have the "thank you for submission" message.

I also received my secondary yesterday after submitting the prelim on 8/4. Incidentally, Calf, how brief are you making the current work and activities section? I'm really hoping that isn't another essay and was planning on writing just a few sentences.

oh man, I want one!
I submitted my prelim 7/21; most of my friends who submitted their amcas to uw mstp got the rejection letter from the md-only program, but I didn't; should I be worried?

Edit: oh! are there more essays?

I wrote like 3-4 sentences.

I would not worry. Perhaps you weren't rejected LOL!

There is one more optional essay (either write an autobiography or use your AMCAS PS in place of it), but the rest is very brief.

I talked with Sandra (I think that is what her name is. She is MSTP administrator at UW). She said that she collects all the MSTP apps on Monday and send it for the director's review. If you make the cut, you get invited for supplemental.

I submitted mine on 8/11, and she said that I will go for director's review on 8/25. So, I am hoping for supplemental invite or rejection after the labor day.

^ I wonder what's up then with all of us who've had our apps in for 6+ weeks and still have heard nothing. This is total speculation on my part, but maybe they're extremely backlogged, or maybe they're still trying to decide on whether we're competitive based on the newer apps they're receiving.

I should clarify that Sandra said that my app should go under review on 8/25.

I have no idea how they are reviewing it. I have long stop trying to understand this enigmatic process. Good luck to all!

One note of caution: UW has a strange application procedure where the MD admission office receives information electronically from AMCAS. Once the notification of change is received by MD office, you app goes in hold mode for 16 days until all the information is includede in the MSTP database.

Do not make ANY changes to your AMCAS after you submit your UW prilimnary. I added one school and changed my address after submitting my UW prilimnary. That will delay my UW MSTP reveiw. I was supposed to go under review yesterday, but b/c of my changes, I will not go under reivew till mid september. That really sucks!😡😡😡

The preliminary applications were reviewed yesterday. Yesterday, I received an invitation to submit a secondary application.

My status is still "your application is undergoing an initial screening for competitiveness" =(. I edited my AMCAS two weeks ago to add one more letter of rec writer - I wonder if this is why? I spoke to the MSTP office on Friday, and they mentioned my app had been reviewed by one dean but needed two reviews before a decision would be made.

Fabricationary-
No U washington secondary for me yet either...
I submitted my primary on 8/11 (I think) and it went under review on Monday 8/25, so I wouldn't really expect one yet (although there was someone in this thread that got one almost immediately).

Thanks for the reply. I'm still waiting as well. My app has been undergoing an initial screening for more than two weeks now.

Hey guys, I'm a first year at the UW MSTP. If you have an questions about our wacky application process, let me know.

I definitely wasn't expecting this, but I had a super fast application turn-over (or turn-around?) rate. I submitted the preliminary on Sunday, 9/21, and received a secondary on Wednesday, 9/24.

I submitted my secondary today and will be mailing in my application fee asap. it's nice to feel some love especially after having being beaten down so quickly by Tri-I.

jlamacc1, not sure if you can answer this question but do you know what the turn around for the secondary to interview invite/reject decision tends to be? Thanks for your help!

yeah me too actually...I really want to go to UWSOM (i'm OOS), so I was super happy that I got a secondary for the regular MD program. Then I was like, what the heck, might as well apply to the MSTP too because it gives me one more opportunity? So I filled out the preliminary screen on 9/17 and got a secondary today (9/26). It turns out the Director of the MSTP program is in the same field of research as my PI in college, and they are friends! Small world, eh?

Anyway, keepin the dream alive...I hope that's good news in the near future 😀

Congrats on getting a secondary! I think interview/rejection decision turnaround is highly variable here. Remember, UW doesn't start interviewing until after the first of the year and has one interview weekend per month from January until March or April. My personal experience was a fairly quick turnaround (~4 or 5 weeks, if I remember correctly) but I was in the first interview group. So, by virtue of the later interview dates, I wouldn't advise you to hold breath for a quick decision. I would however, advise you to hold out as long as possible for an interview, because this program ROCKS!

Question for those go received UWash secondary: I went under initial competitiveness review on Monday. How long after that did you receive your secondary or rejection? Please let me know. This is one of my top choice...and recently I been having a string of bad luck with top tier schools. Pray for me!

CancerKiller007, i submitted my preliminary app on 9/21, got my secondary on 9/24. i just checked my status online and i'm complete/under review again for competitiveness (i submitted the secondary on the same day i got it and mailed my app fee, which is only $35 btw, the next day).

i've been getting rejections from top tier schools too, so even though I'd love to go to UWash, i'm starting to think i might have aimed too high.....i'll join you in praying.

So I have been going under the primary screen since Monday, but have not received email for secondary. Is that a bad sign? I hope I get the secondary and interview at UW....🙄

I don't think it's necessarily a bad sign. I got my secondary about a month after I submitted my primary...

same boat as me, but I may have screwed the pooch on this app (accidentally submitted in a sleep deprived state, or something to that affect, either way, the descriptions of my academic and industrial research were terse at best)

Do rejections come by regular mail and invitations to fill out secondaries via email? I haven't received either, but I think the one by mail could have been lost...

It took me about 4 weeks since submitting my primary to get invited for a secondary.
BUT, they actually sent me an email really late. I got an email in early october telling me that i was invited to submit the secondary, but when I logged in and checked my application status, there was actually a notification posted on my page in later september, saying that I could fill out my secondary form.
I just didn't know because I havent been logging in to check my application status!
so that's a tip, if you're still waiting for the secondary invite. Check every day, and don't wait for the email. It could save you more than a week. 🙂

and another small thing: UW only accepts the application fee by mail. so mailing in your check should be the first thing you do, if you haven't written your secondary essays yet.

First off, sorry for reviving a old post.

I got a email a couple weeks or so ago saying that my completed application (with the secondary) has undergone three rounds of review and is in a pool of applications that will be reviewed again by the MSTP director to decide who to interview in December/January. Is this a good sign? Would anyone happen to know the percentage of those that pass this review and is given a interview invite?

Hey bioobgyn,

It's so out of your control that I think it isn't worth worrying about. I believe the best you could do is send a letter of interest to the school if you think you didn't give them enough reason for why you'd be a good fit there. I doubt most people are privy to those kinds of insider-statistics.

Hope this helps. I also hope you put your eggs in many baskets; at least what I'm getting from this process is that no one can pick a single school we want to get into. Rather, we have to cast our nets widely, and hopefully we can get into more than one.
