I just want to hear about those who retook courses and recieved a large jump in gpa. 🙂

I know the AMCAS doest replace grades when computing your gpa but they average the 2...is it the same case for the AACOM??

I was going to retake some of my sciences and I decided against it. I am retaking things like sociology and political science, I'm considering retaking the analytical chem class I got a D in, but I'm focusing my efforts on doing my 2nd bacherlors in science and doing well in my current classes. It doesn't really have THAT big an effect on your GPA. Then again, I also have an INSANE amount of credit hours (after this fall I'll have almost 200).

But look into it. If it is a lot of classes that is great, but if you are doing it for one or two classes, it might not help that much.

AACOMAS doesn't average but not all schools just "replace" grades either. . Some schools calculate their own GPA.

What kind of system do these schools use...and do you know which schools if not all?

That is an excellent question and I think there are only a few out there that do this ... I maybe wrong but I had heard that some average the grade out. I am trying to find the examples mentioned but have been unable to.

AACOMAS DOES replace the grade though. And most of the osteopathic schools follow in suit. I will try to find the exceptions (if any).

for which of the following schools will there be a big difference between submitting the AACOMAS application on june 1 as opposed to august 1, how will the chances of being accepted be affected: NYCOM, PCOM, OUCOM, UMDNJ-SOM, WVSOM, LECOM-PA.

NYCOM usually starts interviewing late in November after their Open House so an August 1st application may not hurt you considerably. I submitted to NYCOM late August and was in the 2nd interview group this cycle. I do think its best to just apply June 1st though.

my g.p.a according to E-profile has dropped every year since my freshman year so i am worried that schools will see this if i submit it in june, however, my summer semester ends in august. i plan to take 7 credits in summer and hopefully get 2 A's and so my senior year g.p.a will be higher than my junior year g.p.a so that trend of g.p.a dropping every no longer exists. if i don't take these 2 classes and get A's in both then my senior year g.p.a will be less than my junior year g.p.a. and so the trend exists. should i worry about this?

I had alot of C's myself in science classes during my undergrad, so I entered a post-bacc program at another school and basically took all the pre-med courses all over again and did very well. That boosted by science gpa by about 0.7 which i think is pretty significant considering where my science gpa was originally. 🙂

Apply early and you should get some interviews. You may want to add a couple more schools.
