All of the Chemistry classes at my university are full, so my only choice may be to get permission from a professor to get into their class (unlikely) or to take a night class. It only meets once per week for three hours. Has anyone else taken a chemistry course similar to this?

Students have rated this professor as giving difficult tests, but being very helpful. I have taken other night classes before and did fine, but this is chemistry lol! I did get an A in general chemistry 1, but it was at a community college, not a large public university. Would you take this class? Any input and/or advice would be great. Thanks.

That's how my chem class is going to be also, I only chose it because it was the only decent professor, but I think it will be fine. I'm also taking a bio class the same time.

if you don't get stuck with more than chem as your only night class, it'll be the best semester ever. knocking out an entire course in an evening just makes the rest of the week so much better

chemistry for only one day a week? sounds like heaven...

I'd prefer to only have to go to one lecture a week even if it is a little longer. Go for it! 🙂

Hey OP, for chem I took a class identical to that -- at night for three hours once per week.

I was kind of worried at first, but I actually ended up liking it for the most part.

Some things to keep in mind:

Since three times the material is covered in one lecture, it may be harder to "absorb" as much of it compared to more spread out lectures. I would highly suggest reviewing all of the notes given the day after the lecture and to start working practice problems immediately so that you become familiar with and skilled in all the concepts you need to know. (Some people find reading BEFORE lecture helps -- just find out what works for you.)

It is VERY easy to procrastinate when you only have to meet once a week (this comes out to what... ~4 lectures per midterm exam?) Be sure to stay caught up and learn as much as you can early on. Working practice problems is ESPECIALLY important in Chem II compared to Chem I. DO ALL OF THE ASSIGNED TEXTBOOK PRACTICE PROBLEMS THAT THE PROFESSOR RECOMMENDS. This is key. I would also recommend buying a subscription to cramster.com for the worked out problem solutions in the back of the textbook. The solution manual that you might be able to buy is usually very inadequate and incomplete -ie, not worth the money. However, be sure to attempt the practice problems before looking up the solutions on cramster, otherwise you won't be learning anything.

For lab, keep communication open with your TA as it is very easy to get points knocked off on your lab reports. Don't feel timid about emailing your TA looking for advice on working out the assigned problems for lab. Also, read and understand the experiments ahead of time so that you can use your lab time more efficiently.

Best of luck!

General shout out to Gen Chem 2.

Oh, how I miss the days of your rates, properties and equilibrium.
