In my attempts to streamline the books I plan on using for my medicine rotation (being 3 months by the way) - I was recommended The Consult Manual of Internal Medicine. My bookstore doesn't have it. Has anyone used/ had any experience with this one?

Its the best overall handbook out there. It has an interesting format that incorporates both pathophysiology and pharmacology. Being that both are essential to medicine, it covers it all. Very very nice.

I didn't particularly like Blueprints for Medicine...just didn't think it lived up to others like Blueprints for Ob/Gyn. I'll second Boards and Wards though.

Boards & Wards during 3rd year was great! use this plus step up to medicine. and come step 2 time go through B&W again along with Step 2 Secrets and USMLEworld for questions.

i'd really like to pick up this consult book you guys are talking about.

I have it. Didn't have the pleasure of rotating on his service, but he was there at morning report and it was cool to watch all the knowledge flying around.

It's pretty decent.

I just picked this book (Consult Manual of Internal Medicine) up as well after reading nothing but rave reviews online. So far I'm very impressed. It seems to give the exact little tidbits of pathogenesis that you want to know when looking something up. The format initially seems a little less pretty than other books but it's all there and surprisingly easy to access. Highly recommended.

As an aside... a great physical diagnosis text is Sapira's Art & Science of Bedside Diagnosis by Orient.

Yeah... this book is awesome (Consult Manual of Internal Medicine -by Rosen). Definitely the best book out there that I've seen. I saw some other students and residents using it, so checked it out.. it's great.
