I took my exam early this week. Being the spazz that I am, I inadvertently knocked one of the wires loose during my 3rd block of questions. After several unsuccessful minutes of trying to figure out why my screen turned blank, I called one of the Prometrics employees and told them what happened. He told me to wait outside the testing area and a few minutes later came back with my computer restored to where I left off. I asked him if my previous blocks of questions were still saved and he assured me that no data was lost since all exams are backed up on their server. He didn't seem too worried about it but I'm freaking out now.

I figure this probably has happened before and they do have measures to prevent data loss but I just don't know. How awful would it be to getting a bad score on the USMLE, or worse failing it cuz of a simple error. If this has happened to anyone, please let me know the outcome. I've also contacted NBME and still waiting for them to get back to me. I'll let you know the result. Figure someone might find this thread useful in the future.

Dude, don't worry about this at all. Trust me, I used to be a computer programmer before I went into medicine. The machines in the testing centers are just dummy terminals and everything is run off the servers. Turning off those computers is basically nothing more then switching off the monitor.

I can 100% assure you that you won't get any problem or hassle from this. Don't stress about it at all.
