So you guys know the question on the AADSAS application under the section Background Information"
Has your education ever been interrupted or affected adversely for reasons other than deficiencies in conduct or academic performance?
I just wanted to ask what your opinion is regarding the following situation. I had a semester (was supposed to be my last) where I took on a second job to stay out of debt. My hours essentially doubled. Outside of class I only had time for work. So I was unable to complete homework or spend time with my wife and daughter. On top of that I found I was unable to get into dental school and it lead to a catastrophic semester. I withdrew from 2 courses (physiology and micro lab) and received a C in head and neck anatomy, a D in money management, and an F in philosophy. Obviously it was the worst semester of my college experience and was truly a depressing time for me. My GPA for the semester was less than 1.0.
After that thankfully my life turned around. I landed a great research internship at Washington State University and returned to college for one last semester. Took the classes that I had withdrawn from and the head and neck anatomy along with a few other courses. This time I did much better and got a 3.45 or around there.
So would you say that the experience I had could fall under the question listed above? I am well aware that such a semester raises a red flag for many dental schools. I have a strong desire to go into dentistry and will apply this cycle and again next year if I don't get in this year. I will be retaking the DAT in July. Any feedback will be appreciated. Thanks.
Here are my stats:
GPA stats
BCP GPA - 3.58
sGPA - 3.42
non-sGPA - 3.40
Total GPA - 3.42
DAT stats
Science - 17 (science expanded 16 BIO, 22 gChem, 15 oChem)
RC - 20
PAT - 19
QR - 18
AA - 18
