Hey guys,

I am a student at Marquette University School of Dentistry, so if you have questions for me, post them and I will try to help you out. I know I would have like this when I was applying, so I figured why not. Keep in mind that I am a student and not in admissions.

How thoughtful of you to help us out! Thanks in advance!
I have some questions:
What do you like the most about Marquette (academically and clinically speaking)?
Is it true there is a manual dexerity test during the interview? If so, what do you do?
Do you have any other general advice when considering attending Marquette?

Can I say everything? Academically, The Faculty are really great, the upperclassmen are really great too. Clinically, they get you in the clinic your first year, that is what sold me on the clinical aspect.

I have not heard of anyone here having a manual dexterity test.

Do you have any other general advice when considering attending Marquette?
I love it here, and it is very nice to be able to say that. I guess that is not advice, but if you have any other questions let me know.

I have an interview Nov 5th and am pumped about it! What do you think is the best strategy for answering questions at the interview? Since you only get 10 minutes with each of 4 board members, I would think be very confident and concise. What do you think?

Nice! The best strategy, I think is to prepare, but be yourself. Go through the normal interview questions and be prepared with answers, but make sure they are your own and be real about it. I read the Marquette Dental Guide and it had info on one of the people interviewing me, so I could talk to her about that. Read up on the school and tell them what you really like about it. Confidence is good, but don't be overly confident, they expect you to be nervous if you really care about getting in.

See you on NOV 5th!

Do you remember what questions they asked during the interview? Do they drill you with as many questions as possible in those 10 minutes? I interview there next week!!! 🙂

Hi there,
I live in Utah and going to apply to dental school next year. What do you think are my chances to be admitted to Marquette considering the following?: My major is Deaf Studies (so I'm learning American Sign Language). I have over 100 shadowing hours, enough service hours (including international humanitarian service), worked on two research projects, and done a Summer internship in a dental office. I graduated as a dental technician in Peru (worked for one year) and attended dental school in Argentina for two years only. Now, my overall GPA is 3.06 and my science GPA 2.62...I know! By the way, I am an American citizen now.

Now, what do you think? Thanks man.

Hello there, I have read a post on SDN about the ethnicity pool at the school. And apparently the school has a VERY low ratio of asian students. If you don't mind sharing, could you verify that statement?

hi when i found out about my interview i was thrilled. I have toured the school twice now...and I have got to say I love the building! My interview is in about 3 days and I was wondering if they ask a lot of ethics question....thanks.

GreekDDS might be able to answer you better than I because when I interviewed it was with 2 adcoms. Last year they started a different thing, you interview with every adcom for about 5 mins so they can all get to know you. It works to your advantage so that they all can meet you.

I would suggest you go on the interview feedback part of SDN so you can see what question they have asked recently or even last year.

You will also get to sit with a student panel of current students where you can get info on what the students think.

Best of luck!

Check out the interview feedback part of SDN. You'll get a lot of info on more recent questions and what people thought. My interview was really straight forward, they wanted to know more about me, why I wanted Marquette, what unique things I had done, my hobbies, my views on cheating, typical interview questions.

I guess I am not sure what a low Asain ratio would be. Are you looking for 30-50%, if so then Marquette isn't that way. I would be interested to know how many Asain students apply nationwide per year. Honestly I don't think a lot apply to Marquette. I know that when I interviewed at a few schools they talked about how they had a hard to recruiting Asians.

I think we have quite a diverse group of students, there are asians, some from india, some latins, etc. Its probably proportionate to the demographics of the applicant pool!

hey drsmiles,

I checked out your pre-dents page and it looks like you had a preety successful cycle despite the low QR. I'm taking the DAT soon and am concerned about the QR section (I feel like I'll get a low score on this section), did schools address your QR score, or did they not really care?

Thanks.

Unfortunately I didn't study much for that section and it shows! I noticed that most schools didn't care about it, and a few even told me that it seemed a nationwide trend that QR scores were lower. Some schools have a minimum score required on every section in order to be considered, those are the ones you need to be worried about.

We had a guy come from Pitt to our undergrad and he said that was the reason I probably hadn't heard from them, but if I were to write them an e-mail and ask them to overlook that score the adcoms would probably give me an interview. So I did and about a week later I got an interview there, I ended up declining it because I had been to several interviews and felt that I found the schools I was interested in.

Good luck on the QR, don't be foolish like me and think no effort will lead to a decent score! 🙂
