I was considering joining a post-bac med program to improve my academic credentials. My GPA is good but MCAT is pretty bad and retook it already (with prep courses) w/ very minor improvement. I've always had problems with standardized tests. So would joining a post-bac med program be a good idea? any pros? cons? and WHICH PARTICULAR PROGRAM IS GOOD? THank you so much for your input! I truly appreciate it b/c I'm relying on you guys for advice and guidance since I'm lost. Have a great day!

You're posting in the wrong section, but I would say you need a better MCAT prep course, not a post-bac. Post-bac programs are designed to either improve GPA or for non-science majors to take prereqs.

if your gpa is good, a postbac/SMP wouldn't really do you any favors because you still need a solid mcat.

definitely look over how you studied your mcat last time and see what you can do to improve. practice tests aren't the best 'predictors' of how you will do on the real thing, but it does tell you how well you grasp the material and what you can expect on the real thing. my advice is don't take it if you're not ready. why? the mcat is a spawn of the devil and luck most likely won't be on your side.

While a post-bac really is to help out with academic credentials, if your post-bac has a lot of hard sciences then it may indirectly help you do better on your MCAT. I am in the LECOM post-bac and according to previous students, they say that the courses really helped them a lot when they retook their MCATs, especially with the biological sciences section.

check out drexel's Medical Science Preparatory (MSP) program. it's a one-year certificate program with both grad and undergrad courses to imporove your mcat score.
