I took my one year old with me to a professor recently when I went to drop off a LOR package. She asked me if I was using day care because there are places where I can't take my kid to.

Now I am left wondering if she did not like it that I took my kid with me. I did not think much of it because I did not even expect to see her in the office, I was going to slide it under her door. Should I not take my kid w/me for quick trips like this?😕 I thought she would be happy to meet my kid because when I took her class I was not even pregnant.😕

Not everybody likes kids. Some people can only handle kids in small contained doses, like at a yearly family gathering. And all the things you're used to as a young mom, the smells, and the noises, how you have to keep a laser eye on everything your kid is doing, possibly to the detriment of any conversation that's going on? Some people are truly baffled and annoyed by that. Maybe the annoyed bafflement is more stereotypical in a man, but there are definitely women who exhibit it - I'm related to some.

If the kid event doesn't affect your letter, then you don't have to worry about it. Her comment was out of line - but it's still good information.

Sadly I'm one of those people that does tend to get annoyed at other people's kids, 😳 and things that are cute to the parents are often not cute to me, probably because I don't have children. But, usually this is only when the kids are making disturbances that are inappropriate for the environment (i.e. a quiet restaurant). Did your 1-year old make loud noises near offices where professors were trying to work? If so, that is probably what spurred the comments and honestly is understandable. If not, then the prof was out of line. At the end of the day, I doubt its a big deal.

Don't worry about it. Maybe she just thought she was giving you some helpful advice, or maybe she doesn't like kids like other people have suggested. Regardless, she's probably forgotten about this entire incident by now, and you should, too.

Thanks, I am a first time Mom and learning as I go...
