I called a few schools today, because I have not heard from them for months. They told me that my applications have not been reviewed yet, and I was complete in either August or September. Does that happen to anyone?

i got the same response when i called...in fact, i was told it was "still in a bin waiting to be looked at" which made me feel oh-so-special

No. Everyone else has had all of their applications reviewed at every school they have applied to. It appears you are being singled out to be ignored.

Come on, you'd only have to spend about 10 minutes perusing the threads here to see that dozens of people are in the same boat.

DON'T listen to this guy. I'm in the same boat, so obviously you're not being SINGLED out. Furthermore, how can they single YOU out without knowing anything about you yet.

Wow...sarcasm anyone?

Haha. Yes, I am also in this proverbial boat. Hopefully it takes us to doctor island.

I was just wondering if these were any of the Texas schools. If so, well I can't help you there...I've interviewed at 5 of them and I'm just waiting for the pre-match offers which begin on November 15th for Texas residents.

Some adcom members are fast readers and quick decision makers and some procrastinate and have a hard time making a decision. They sit on applications for weeks and weeks -- I've heard of some who now, in November, are sitting on applications that they were asked to read in August!

In my experience, the faculty member who makes a first pass at your application will take 20-30 minutes to read the AMCAS, supplemental and letters. Multiply that by 3,000 applications, 6,000 or 9,000 and you can see that some schools have 1,000-4,500 "man-hours" of reading to do. Add a second reader who spends 5-10 minutes with each application. Consider that these faculty members are committee volunteers who also have responsibility to their labs and/or patients as well as some teaching responsibility (on the wards or in classroom) and it can be 10 weeks from the time that someone is complete until they are read. It can be a few more weeks before those reader recommendations result in an invitation to interview.

I guess what you said makes sense. But when I asked about my application status, I feel like they didn't know anything but making up something to say just to get me off the phone. Anyway, I understand that it takes time to read all those applications.

Hey, it could be worse. Some of our apps may already be sitting in the reject pile. Unfortunately for me several of the schools to which I applied do not send out any rejections until spring. Therefore the emptiness of my email in-box could mean either a rejection, or just waiting to be reviewed. Now that I think about it, knowing the rejection possibility makes it worse. 🙁

translation: i am awesome and will be accepted in 10 days.

anyone want to share what schools have told them they haven't been reviewed yet even though its been months?

just curious.

UVA and USC for me. Both complete in July. I think it may just be a rejection at this point.
