Hello peeps,

So I applied pretty late in the cycle, and got rejected from pretty much all of the few schools I applied to. Now Creighton is the only one left (no interview), and AADSAS says my application is complete. but its April 21st, and I contacted the admissions person recently, and they said that there's nothing to report. I'm not expecting to be invited even or counting on hearing anything positive, but I'd sure like to know what I could work on from the admissions people.... is it normal for this to happen?

it would be hard to tell without your GPA/DAT, but applying late does have effect, but cannot be the only reason since there are people who get in despite having applied late.
I made the mistake of applying sort of late (around september) two years in a row. I just wish I had been more proactive in getting the application stuff ready and sent it out on time.
Maybe I would have had a more successful application cycle.

What's your GPA and DAT? How many schools did you apply to?
how are your ECs?

sGPA at 3.0 and 20 DAT. I applied in November, and my extra EC are plenty and a good mix. Only applied to a handful of schools l.

DAT of 20 is good, but since your GPA is below average, if you had gotten 22+, it would have helped you.
At this point, a lot of people will suggest you to do post-bacc to bring up your undergrad GPA (or a formal SMP or masters) and/ or retake the DAT and get 22+ to offset your low GPA.

Apply broadly as well.

At this point, being almost May, your chance of hearing anything is slim to none. I'd consider a SMP to be honest. If you are going to reapply, do so ASAP in June and apply to at least 15 schools.

it depends on your situation and school you're applying to.

I had same gpa as op but a 23 dat. I only got 1 interview. I did get accepted but I don't think a 23 guarantees an acceptance.
I don't think any combination of stats guarantees acceptance. it just increases your chances.

I'm saying this so that you'd consider shooting for 4.0 in your post-bac/smp and 30 on your DAT.
Don't set low goals but really try your best. You are investing a great deal of time and money after all.

I have come to believe that many people who think they aren't capable can actually do great,
especially after speaking with a graduate that had horrible stats before dental school but ended up top of the class and specializing.

I guess there's really no guideline that says what number is good enough, but 20 is usually considered good enough or safe number as long as other numbers and ECs are good.
However, with GPA that is below average, I'd think you will need 22 or even 23+ to offset the GPA.
