So I was just wondering if anyone knows how much emphasis is put on the interview. I have interviewed at KCUMB, AZCOM, and UNECOM, and all three interviews went really well. However, got the reject from KCUMB, accepted at AZCOM, and waiting for UNECOM. I was under the impression that MCAT, GPA, and extra cirricular stuff was important pre-interview, but I was wondering if most schools go over everything once again to make the ultimate decision.

I don't know if they go over everything again, but I would assume they would. Remember, schools interview more people than they accept and have spots for. They probably look at the interview along with the rest of the application when they review it for the final decision. They can't accept everone they intereview, so the have to look at everything to make the decision.

At NSUCOM I got the impression that the interview is the major determining factor in the application process.

From what Delia told us, the interviewers will place a recommendation on your app. This determination is either accept, waitlist, or reject. When the COA meets they usually go along with this recommendation or, in rare cases, the Dean will override them.

I think they go over everything in making the final decision. How much emphasis the interview is given probably varies by school, and also by how strong a candidate you are. If you have a 30 MCAT/3.5 GPA, you probably don't have to wow them in the interview. If you have a 22 MCAT/3.0 GPA, you probably need a pretty strong interview to get in.

Once you are in the interview levels it is widely believed that the major academic differences are done with. They weeded out a lot of the ones they didn't want. Both parts are important but I believe the interview is really just to see if you will fit with the school....I mean they have to deal with you at the school for four years just as you do with them. 😉 If they invited you for an interview they are pretty sure you can handle the academics though...and an interview won't sway that part, at least if you look at the research. (People are horrible at judging future performance....numbers are much better for that) I am sure there are plenty of cases where someone edged out a person with slightly higher numbers because they were just kind, sincere, appreciative and all of that other stuff. If one can say that two interviews were exactly the same then the grades will probably edge them out...barring the person with lower grades having better ECs and what not.
