Every year around this time, we start to see a wave of applicants asking, “Is it too late to apply?” If you haven’t submitted your primary application yet, the honest answer is yes — it’s too late for this cycle if your goal is to maximize your chances of admission.
The verification process now takes weeks, not days. If you submit today, your application likely won’t be verified until late July or early August. That means most of your secondaries won’t arrive until then either. By the time you submit those, you’ll be entering the cycle a full 6–8 weeks behind your more prepared peers.
Why does that matter?
Because rolling admissions is real. It’s not just a buzzword. Schools begin reviewing secondaries and offering interviews as early as August. Applicants who submit earlier tend to be overrepresented in interview pools. In fact, according to AAMC data and internal advising metrics, applicants who apply after mid-July are 4 times less likely to be accepted compared to those who apply in May or early June.
More than 60% of applicants every cycle get rejected from every school they apply to. That’s thousands of smart, motivated people who spend hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars to “just see what happens.”
But you’re not applying to see what happens. You’re applying to get in.
If you’re not yet submitted, this is your chance to stop, regroup, and plan smart. Ask yourself:
Taking that time now isn’t a delay. It’s strategy. And it's what successful reapplicants — and smart first-time applicants — do.
At Asclepius Advising, we have experience working with clients who weren't able to maximize a first cycle. They are now on the way to medical school!

Take this as a sign from the universe, you need a little more time to present yourself at your best. It's okay!

Don’t turn yourself into a statistic just to say you tried.

If you’re not yet submitted, this is your chance to stop, regroup, and plan smart. Ask yourself:
- Why didn’t I submit on time?
- Was it the personal statement? The MCAT? Letters? Burnout?
- What will I do differently in the next 3–6 months to own the next cycle?
