I'm a rising junior and I haven't yet decided when I'm going to apply to dental school, but I want to start studying for the DAT this summer. However, I've taken Gen Chem 1/2 and some bio courses but no Orgo at all (I'm taking Orgo 1/2 this upcoming school year). Has anyone had experience with this, and how would you suggest going about preparing for the DAT? Should I focus on other areas for the time being? Thank you!

If I were you, I would wait until I have taken at least Orgo 1. It's not an easy subject, and I can't imagine self-studying for it.
By the way, there's DAT Discussion board

Don't try to learn Orgo for the DAT before taking Orgo. Without fundamental concepts, the simplified DAT Orgo makes no sense. It will also be hard to remember what you study now if you take the DAT next summer. Just start studying next summer (May) and take it in July.

What if I'm planning to apply for dental school at the end of my junior year?

Would you happen to know if Khanacademy's Orgo videos (or any of that kind) are any good? (And thanks, I've now posted a new thread in the DAT discussion forum)

Haven't used them.. no idea, sorry!

And no problem!

That's exactly what I did and that's through using the method I mentioned earlier. I began studying for the DAT in May and took it in July of the summer between my junior and senior year. I submitted my app in June too. Landed interviews and was accepted.

Chad's org chem video and DAT destroyer. I hardly remembered anything from my org chem class, so it was like not taking them at all.

If you do attempt it, then I would use Chad's Videos. It's basically a simplified class. Everything that you don't understand, open up a book or google it. (masteringorganicchemistry.com has a ton of blog posts on specific reactions, but would only use for a reference)
