Hi everyone . i am new at this but just wants to know whether its advisable to get a major before applying to pharmacy school. i would be done with my prereq in spring and i havent written the pcat yet . i am a little confused as to whether to get a major . opinions are appreciated .

If you get a BS or BA you will be more competitive than someone who doesn't hold a previous degree. Some schools give you extra "points" if you do hold a degree. However, some people do get in without a previous degree. I'd apply to Pharmacy School, then if I didn't get accepted, I'd continue to work towards completing a BS while working as a tech somewhere.

Good luck.

i advise a BS degree. i was looking at acceptances at ucsf earlier....it said something like 96% had bachelors and 4% had graduate/professional degrees...so where does that leave non degree holders? lol

at Kentucky you can be a pre-pharm until you have earned a certain amount of hours and then you must declare a major. I would do as the others have said and work towards a degree but apply in the meantime.

You can declare a major and apply to schools. If you don't get accepted, work toward your major, do some EC's, try hard to spruce up your application and try again! A lot of people are "pre-pharm" major so talk to an advisor at your school and also at the pharmacy school you'd like to go to. Don't be scared...they're really helpful.
