Hi SDN,

I forgot to drop a class (I'm an idiot) and now I find myself having to withdraw logistically. It's not a required class and it's actually a 100-level, non-required general education course. I've been fortunate enough to have two acceptances to medical school (I'm a senior); how bad would this W look and would I have to inform the school before I send in my final transcripts?

Regards,

Regards,

It doesn't look good, since most schools require you to achieve satisfactory credit in all the classes you listed you'd be taking this year on AMCAS. Can you not pass the class with a C+ or higher?

No they don't, they just require you to complete all your prerequisites and gen ed courses. Future classes listed on AMCAS are generally non-binding.

University of Illinois informed me,
via phonecall, that all classes taken this semester need to be completed with a grade of a C or higher. No W's.

You should probably ask the schools for their policy on this rather than asking for the opinions of others since you have the W already.

I don't need the course as I have completed my gen ed requirements (which I didn't realize when I first signed up for the course)

Can I still drop?

I can still manage probably a B...but I'd rather not put in the effort. I haven't dropped it yet.

You should call and ask! I wouldn't risk it and get the W without checking with the school first 🙂

Check with the schools you have been accepted to. I feel like it won't matter.

Put in the effort and avoid giving them a reason to rescind your acceptance.

I called and emailed the schools I was accepted to and they said I didn't have to take the classes I listed on AMCAS. They said you only had to complete any programs you are enrolled in. I was taking those classes as a non-degree student.
