Guys, I am only a freshman, who was 110% going the pre-dental route. Now, I am not so sure. I know that I want to be a doctor, and help people. I am extremely good with kids, and I have shadowed a pediatrician MD before. I got bored after 2 hours of shadowing him just because I was merely shadowing. My girlfriends family thinks that I would make a terrific pharmacist, and although I can see myself as a pharmacist, I just don't know, because I know there is a lot of chemistry involved (chemistry is fun, but I really have to study hard at it to understand it.) I know I am supposed to be some sort of a doctor. I am torn right now between Dentistry, Medicine, and Pharmacy. HEEEEEEELP!!! I can literally see myself doing any one of these fields. Any advice?

Spend more time in each of those fields until you DO figure out what is best for you. You're still early in your education and you have plenty of time to decide what you want to do. Take your time. You don't want to regret your decision later on down the road.

I worked at a retail pharmacy for 3 months to get a taste for it. I'm sure some people like it but I would not want to be a pharmacist. I didn't like that they basicaly stand in one spot all day (and I really mean one spot, at their designated part of the counter) and fill these bottles like madmen. It didn't seem to take a lot of skill or knowledge either. How hard is it to read a Rx, follow it's instructions, then slap a sticker on the bottle and start over? If your a Fresh. you should go try it before getting too serious about it.

Man your gf's family can see you doing anything. First they wanted you and your gf to both become orthodontist. now they want you to become a pharmacist.
In pharmacy there is a lot of chemistry, but its just about as much as being a physician or dentist.

Dont limit yourself to the doctor status. there is soo much more out there than being a doctor. You can work for Americorp and help people, and not deal with insurance companies. you dont need to be a doctor to help people.

Take a few years off, and enjoy life right now, because you will never get these prime years back when you can do anything with pure freedom. after experiencing life then go back and by then you should have a idea of what you want to do.

I am tired of them, because they keep making me change my mind between the three. I think ...actually I now KNOW that all they want is for the daughter to marry me because they know that I am going to be a doctor. My goodness...sorry for even troubling you all with this crap. I am going to just shadow, and see what it is I like. I do have a question though,...once you finally realized what you wanted to do as a profession-wise, did you know it right away, or is it something that you thought would be fun?

my advise to you is to not have your gilfreiends parents making your career decisions, thats just rediculous , i mean take their thought sinto consideration but take it with a grain of salt (or sand whicever you prefer) dont let it have an impact on your decision.

Are you in a future arranged-marriage kind of thing here? Because I don't understand why you would listen to your girlfriend's parents when it comes to your future. I could understand if it were your own parents, but unless you are someone out of "Deliverance," then your girlfriend's parents are not your parents. Tell them you want to become a filmmaker.

Have they no manners? It's incredibly rude of them to think they have the right to boss around some kid who is not their own when it comes to their future. On the other hand, it's your fault for letting them control you like this. Stand up for yourself.
