Having statistics in your personal statement?
Started by iBeast
I would say you need a damn good reason. It is a PERSONAL statement, and I don't think statistics would have anything to do with your personal experience. Do you see yourself statistically?
Would this me acceptable/common? Or I better have a damn good reason to have it in my PS? Thoughts?
Thanks.
I cannot picture a situation in which statistics would improve a PS.
Why would you want to include statistics in your personal statement? Remember, your personal statement should not repeat other parts of your application. Is it statistics that you couldn't include in your application?
Don't the schools know the prospects for pharmacy? 😕
They're more interested in who you are, rather than that you explain the specifics for choosing pharmacy. Perhaps the process you went through (the "how") but I wouldn't tell them the "what."

I used statistics at the end of my personal statement as a sort of climatic exclamation point. My PS focused on how adversity drove me to pharmacy and how I was working 40+ hours weekly + family + taking 9-15 credits per semester for 3 years to get through my pre-reqs. I used my stats (Just GPA and Composite) to say despite all that, I did this, and that is why I'll be a kick-butt addition to this profession - Bam, accept me.
It seemed to work.
My point being, just throwing them in there to be in there makes it sound like you don't have anything better to talk about. I wouldn't use them unless they directly and intrinsically tie into what you are trying to say in your personal statement.
Good luck and get lots of proof readers!
I like your avatar.

That's the fruit of many wasted hours googling emoticons. Thanks AIM!

What is it doing? A push up? LOL I stared at it for like a whole minute. I need to know what it is doing!

lol, I believe the intent was a pushup, but I suppose this ones up to interpretation.
Y'know, with all the wasted minutes trying to figure out what this emoticon is doing, I wonder how many minutes closer we could be to curing cancer.
At least 3.

That may be what the emoticon is doing.
It is clearly doing pushups and breathing out his mouth. What else could he be doing?
Clearly, it's curing cancer.

If this is curing cancer...
