I just found out that I had the first interview date that the school offers. Are there any advantages or disadvantages to this? Does this mean I am up against the best candidates for this particular date??? :/
There are probably a lot of advantages to having really early interview dates. For example, since it is early in their cycle the committee would probably be more willing to admit people with lower GPA/MCAT because there are more spaces available to give out, especially if you have a really good interview. Good luck!
I interviewed on the first day as well. All my interviewers were friendly, and listened to everything I said. Interviewing on opening day is a big plus in my book.
The only downside is that you might have to wait a bit longer to hear the results as admissions committees will wait for the interviewee pile to stack up before they start making decisions. That is not a big deal at all, though.
I agree that there are likely a lot of advantages...not only more seats available but hopefully those folks with the 4.0 GPA, 40 MCAT, and 5000 hours of hospital volunteering have not yet interviewed.
