I'm currently a first year pharmacy student and have been working in retail pharmacy for a little over a year. The pharmacists that I work with have made it clear to me that I'm the worst of all the techs, some of which have started not too long ago with no experience. 🙁 It's a relatively slow store- about 40 scripts per day and I've been working part timel. I just can't seem to get to the level that they expect of a pharm tech/soon-to-be pharmacist. This whole situation makes me so depressed because if I can't make it even in a slow store, there's no hope for me if I get placed in a busy store for rotations. Any words of advice?

What specifically are you not adequate in doing? What do you do with the feedback you are given?

I'm interested in more details too. I've been doing this for 3 months now and I'm pretty sure I could do 40 scripts from input to bin in a little over an hour by myself.

What strikes me odd here is that they'd be willing to actually say this to you. People who like you tend to lie in your favor and be supportive even if you really were terrible. This makes me think maybe it's more related to your attitude on the job? Are you sort of self-absorbed or maybe unreliable? Do you complain a lot?

Let us know what's up!

This post has to be fake. If the store is only doing 40 scripts/day then there is no need for any techs. The fact that you say you are the worse of all the techs, means there is more than one tech working there? The only way I could see even one tech working there is if it was a compounding pharmacy.

did you by any chance meant to say 400 scripts and not 40?

B/c..this would be just weird..many pharmacists..many techs for 40S a day..you gotta be joking or made a mistake......

anyway....tell us more on the feedbacks you got from them...again...usually when people tell you your weaknesses it's b/c they want to see you improve and tell you what you are doing wrong... 🙄

Girl I totally feel you! It’s more depressing for me because I’ve been working at my pharmacy for about 9 months now. Usually I’m fine at work, but my pharmacy manager makes me feel super inadequate and consequently I end up doing stupid **** when she’s around out of nervousness. The fact that I feel like she’s out to get me reinforce my feelings of inadequacy and causes me to make more mistakes….it truly a horrible position to be in. It sucks to know that my pharmacy manager, a person who should be my mentor as I start pharmacy school and a career in pharmacy, doesn’t have any confidence in me whatsoever and clearly shows it. It a real blow to my confidence 🙁

Maybe I'm just not cut out for retail

Pinkpanther - You may be right...but why would your pharmacy manager be "out to get you"? Your perceptions may be conspiring against you inadvertantly.

From your info...you haven't started pharmacy school yet, so the expectations are those of a tech only - not an intern. In an attempt to try to turn a page for you...try to work on just one thing at a time to improve. It may be obtaining all the correct info to process the rx - address, phone, DOB, allergies, insurance info. Or...it may be getting the sig right (& asking if you aren't sure rather than guessing). Whatever...try to improve one thing & get to do it well - then move on. It may not improve your relationship with your manager, but it may make you feel better yourself.

Don't give up & try to turn the situation into a positive one. Just a thought.....

I busted my butt when I first started as an intern. and tried to learn everything like a sponge...and I 100% know that my pharmacist was "out to get me". I have countless stories that could convince anyone. Not all pharmacists/techs are supportive of interns. Mine was a previous grad from my school even. I still work there, but know a lot more now so I don't get bothered by her so much, but it really sucks when you feel like your "boss" is out to get you.

Ouch! Having an unsupportive boss would be bad enough...but one out to get me would be terrible. Out of curiousity......why do you stay?

Kind of out of spite. I worked really hard to learn everything and I am sure I learned it faster than most and with very little help from her or the majority of the techs. I knew I was a fast learner when I was feeling so bad, so I toughed it out, and now, I kind of use my competence as a thorn in her side..... :meanie: especially since I know she wanted me to fail.

Both school internships that I have had so far has offered me a job (this one within 4 days of working there), so I know I have options when I feel like leaving....and it will be great to get her used to my "supreme" competence and then find another job-my way of paying her back for all her "kindness"

Ok, 4 days and no return of ski-bunny. Obvious hoax thread... let's shut'r down.
