Hey,

I have been lurking around SDN and noticed alot of posts about shadowing doctors. My college doesnt have a pre-med society to assist with this so I am on my own finding doctors to shadow. Sent out some emails and cant find anyone that will let me shadow. Does anyone know of anyway I could find doctors besides being turned down constantly ? I live in Florida and if anyone knows any doctors that I could ask please suggest away.

Does your school have an alumni office? Make an appointment to talk to someone there and let them know that it would be helpful to know doctors who would be willing to have shadows. The alumni office may be able to set you up with alumni who are physicians and they may know of non-alumni physicians who are supportive of the school.

I am at a community college so we dont have an alumni office

I would recommend simply calling offices and asking to shadow. Tell them you're interested in becoming a doctor and would like to come in a few times. Many will probably say no, but I'm sure at least one will agree.

You will have more luck with small clinics as opposed to hospitals. Hospitals have a lot of paperwork/red tape.

I am surprised that your school doesn't at least have an alumni association.

Another option is to start vounteering at a free clinic/hospital/etc. where maybe you can meet a doctor and ask them personally. Or you can go to the ER for a bogus injury and ask the doc that you see.
