Does anyone know the stats on how many people get off the waitlist each year? Has anyone here heard of people who got in off the list?

I'm an in stater on the waitlist and would like to know, generally, what kind of chances I have, if any...

I'm in the same boat as you hithere.

I checked mdapps and the instaters that I could find who got waitlisted all got in or withdrew from the waitlist. However, I could only find 4 individuals..... it really sucks how they aren't more transparent about their waitlist....

Anyone know anything about waiting out-of-state? It's so frustrating waiting. I'm asking a friend in the program already, but any other contributions would be helpful in easing my anxxxxietiessss..

I just took myself off the waitlist & I'm a Canadian applicant. I hope this helps someone!

thanks for the info. not sure how many there are exactly, but i know it's not a large number. bleh. might be me and a no more than 20 people out there on out-of-state waiting hopefully they use sdn. lol.

Hey Guys,

Congrats on getting on the waitlist. I know for a fact that will outright reject people. I do know that they do take people off the waitlist...but there are some who get stuck on it. I'm not sure if the waitlist is ranked though.

Best of luck to you all.

Im not sure about oos, but in state has quite a bit of movement. Last year a good friend of mine went to an ivy for UG, second bachelors with a 4.0 and scored in the mid-high30s on her MCAT and got in off the waitlist in the middle of May (why she was waitlisted I have no idea!!!). I was flat out rejected, but this year's a different story!

Good luck to you all!

I just got in off the waitlist 😀 ... So apparently it looks like the waitlist for instaters is already starting to move.

congrats, totch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

well, I just declined my acceptance to JABSOM...

it was a really tough decision, and I'm choosing SUNY Upstate over staying at home. I just had a feeling that I will not grow much at JABSOM. The thought of throwing a good thing away still lingers though. I know people who would love to go to med school in Hawaii.

good luck to those of you on the waitlist. I hope the best for you guys.:luck:

Hey waitlisters,

I also just declined my acceptance to UH (just sent out the email 30 seconds ago), so there's another slot open for you. Hope one of you gets it!

Oddly enough, I too am declining UH in favour of a New York school (SUNY Buffalo or Albany...haven't decided yet)...

Good luck to the rest of you still on the wait list! :luck: :luck:

are you guys in-staters or out-of-staters? chances are that you're instate, but it would help to know which you were. congrats on the other acceptances by the way 🙂

Why don't you feel that you'd grow much at UH? Coincidentally, I was at UH for undergrad and am now in New York for medical school too. I never applied to UH though for medical school.

I got an e-mail from Marilyn Nishiki yesterday saying that the deadline for UH to hold multiple acceptances is May 7. So there may be some waitlist movement for some of you guys soon! Good Luck to you guys!

i'm holding my breath!:scared:

I was instate 🙂 Hope one of you guys gets my slot 😀

🙁 did some research on the waiting list and previous responses in previous JABSOM years and realized that there's not a lot of movement on the waiting list past this time of year. looks like it's time to get ready for another cycle... congrats to everyone and good luck with school! 🙂

From my interview I remember the big boss (the last guy you interview with I forget his name) telling me 10-12 OOS kids get accepted each year. Now consider that 6 OOS are enrolled. SO you can presume 6-8 will be pulled of the waitlist depending on the year.

good luck.

p.s oops dont know anything about instaters...
when people say OOS in reference to jabsom, are they referring to students who are non-Hawaii legal residents, or students that are non-residents according to their 5 point criteria thing?

It's for students that do not meet their 5 point in-state criteria.

why didn't you apply to UH?
I would have gladly gone if it was my only acceptance, but I just can't see home as a place to study anymore after being away for 4 years. I'll always be glad to come back every year, but I just can't stay in the bubble that is Hawaii.

so this is what i've heard from a friend of mine:

acceptances get handed out almost on a tier-like manner. that is, the smartest students get multiple acceptances, then the highest waitlisted kids (with multiple waitlistings) get in after the first group's been cleared, then the next group (possibly with one waitlisting) get in after waitlists start moving, etc.

it apparently takes time to move/clear these lists. so it might be wise to hold onto some hope... if anyone's listening =P

in the meantime, "never give up! never surrender!"
