Hello ,

I am dental student form Serbia. I would like to know if I can enter some head and neck plastic surgery training programe. During my dental studies I have a lot of medical curses beside dental courses such as internal medicine , general surgery, otorynolarynglogy, dermatology, maxilofacial surgery, anestesia, anatomy of all body and especially head and neck, hystology, physiology, patology, patophysiology....

You guys have to rotate through dermatology in pursuit of dentistry? That's odd. 😕

In first year we have Anatomy (of all body), Histology (all body), Biochemistry , Pathology (all body), Physiology (all body), Pathophysiology (all body), Medical Etics, English, History of Dentistry.

In secound year we have: Farmacology, Microbiology, Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Ophlalmology, Dermatology, Otorinolaringology, Urgent medicine (ER medicine), Infectious Deseases, Oral Pathology, Radiology (general and dental)

Then after that you have dental subjects next 3 years.

In first year those are pre-clinical courses. And in secound year those are clinical courses. So in secound year we have lectures in class where we learn theory and we go to hospital to learn practice.

You will not be able to enter a medical residency in the U.S. without an MD or DO degree (your equivalence will probably be DMD or DDS). If you would like to do Head and Neck Plastics (which would be a post-residency course of study), one of the shortest routes for you would be to look into some Maxillofacial Surgery programs (which I think are fairly competitive), after which you may be able to apply for Maxillofacial Plastics fellowships. Hopefully this helped somewhat!
