Okay-38 yr old w/3 children (6,4,2) and hae been RDH for 10 years. Trying to decide on my second career-as hygiene has never really been "It" for me-though great through my pregnancies and good for part time.

Now I really want the fulfilling/challenging/engaging and enjoyable and profitable career. I have been diagnosed w/ mild CTS in both hands-and I want to spend time with my children as they age (I know during school will be challenging for time) but after I still want my family to be #1 (though I do need to work full-time at whatever I choose-due to finances)

Okay so the top two are Dental School-which I will only be able to attend if UNE opens a program (WHCIH THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO IN 2011) or PA which UNE has a current program for-though very competative.

I considered DPT-but since I need this to be the LAST career-I am concerned that PT may get boring/and or to physically challenging.

ANY AND ALL IMPUT IS MUCH APPRECIATED AS THIS DECISION IS DRIVING ME BATTY😳)
thanks

Ok, let me get this straight. You have CTS and you want to be a dentist and you think being a DPT might be more boring than looking in a mouth all day? How's your mental health coverage?

ROFL ROFL ROFL! I know-crazy huh? Well-I had read a woman who was a PT was going to school to be a PA because she was bored. Yes-dental hygiene has been boring for me-that's why I thought dental school would help with that.

Though w/ CTS and 3 children I am now leaning toward PA or PT. I realize that either of those will be difficult to get into-and school is a challenge.

I took the MB personality test and I was an INFJ-which had all I was thinking of for career choices on that list. I have thought about being a PA off and on for the last 5 years-as dental hygiene has not been "doing it" for me.

I guess I am just nervous I will choose and be unhappy and not have another chance (as I probably would not be able to go back to school AGAIN after either of those programs lol!)

My suggestion is to spend some time shadowing each of the professions to get a better feel of each one and have a more informed decision👍

''Dr''Zen why so nasty

That's awfully rude.

She already said that she's leaving RDH because it's not "it" for her (in other words, she finds it unenjoyable), and she's no longer considering DPT because she wants a career that she WILL enjoy.

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

Also, CTS is manageable. Why don't you get surgical therapy and consider dental surgery or something?

The OP, a person of obviously high intelligence, got my humor. Why not you? How's your mental health coverage? I might be able to schedule you in.

While I appreciate all good intentions-I do believe the zen man was simply making a joke that is seems a bit crazy to commit to 4 years of dental school with CTS and that DPT couldn't possibly be more boring than being a dentist. I think he was just trying to be funny-I got it-and I thought it was funny. Writing just seems to lose so much in tone and inflection it is often misinterpreted.

Thanks all for the good advice-still not 100% sure between DPT and PA-though dental is out.
