Did you guys get a picture professionally for ERAS or did you just borrow your friend's DSLR, stand in front of a library bookshelf, and do it that way?
 
Find a place that does professional photos for a reasonable price. I paid $10. I wouldn't take shortcuts on anything at this point.
 
I took mine with my wife's digital camera and that worked just fine. Except when people printed out my application, my headshot got an ENTIRE page...kind of embarrassing but it started some of my interviews with a laugh.

Don't waste $10. Any semi-decent point and shoot can take an adequate 2x2 head shot, as long as you ain't too ugly. No cheesy modeling poses either, people laugh at that ****.

Oh, no "bookshelf" backgrounds either. Solid color, plain wall behind you.
