So I'm headed to a med school next fall/summer, and am now starting to think about summer. I haven't completely chosen where I want to go, but most schools start in early August, or even mid-July. I graduate on May 1st, and am now thinking what I should do for the summer. I plan on taking a vacation of course, but will also want to take make some money. However, this is barely enough time for a 12 week internship, and many internships are either for graduate/medical students, or else for current sophomore/junior undergrads. Where do we fall in this odd transition, and what do most people usually do?

boy IF i get accepted, i plan on traveling and visiting family. I had too many years of studying for MCAT or doing these AMCAS applications (last 4 summers of my life RUINED!)

man, what ive heard, treasure the summer vacations you have, cuz they don't come very often after this. SO, with that said, i know im going to travel. 👍 👍

You need to get your school's required book list and start reading. If you don't you'll be so far behind your fellow first years that you may never catch up. Don't be "that guy," the one who had three months of free time before he started medical school and just frittered it away.

Book list be d@mned, here are the books you need to start with: Robbins Pathological Basis of Disease (the big one with many pictures) and First Aid for Step 1 2006 or 2007.

Seriously, I did an internship at a biotech company last summer and it practically was like a vacation; they treated us like royalty. I'd love to get another cushy internship for a bit (and of course travel some), but was wondering if anyone knew of opportunities out there, and what exactly an undergrad graduate/entering med student classiffies oneself as.

travel, enjoy time with your friends, drink, be merry

I'm going to do something FUN. I want to travel in Europe - you can only take advantage of cheap student train fares & hostels for so long!
