What do you all think about headlights that attach to your loupes? I've done some research with all the major companies (Orascoptic, Surgitel, DFV, and Firefly) and now I'm really trying to decide whether they are worth it. As a student, you can get a decent discount, so now is probably the time to get one if I do want it. Profs who have them seem to love them, but I'm not sure if they are really worth it. Thoughts?

BUMP...

I am very interested in this as well...

People who have them seem to swear by them.

Love hate type thing. There really isn't a middle ground. If you have one, you're sure to inadvertantly "blind" your patients a few times while talking to them and forgetting that the light is still on, and you'll more than likely accelerate the set of a composite filling or 2 for the same reason as you're getting used to them.

Personally, I have a light, and I use it SOMETIME (typically maxillary posterior work and most oral surgical procedures). There are times though when I just frankly found it overkill between the fiber optic light from the handpiece and a PROPERLY positioned patient in the chair.

If you're going to get a light, please do yourself a favor and get a belt mounted clip on battery pack. It's worth the extra $$ over the big, bulky wall plug in light source units!

Amen to this. My residency program got us the new orascoptic belt clipped/battery pack LED headlights (unfortunately we have to give them back!). I really like it and it is much more convenient than the table top light source, which will most likely get yanked off the table once or twice. By and large, I'm glad I have it.
