health insurance coverage for MD/PhD programs...

I know that WashU covers health insurance for all MD/PhD students... what about other schools?

It seems to me that often this gives those schools like WashU a clear financial edge (since there are lots of MD/PhD programs that dont pay for insurance)

this can easily run up to $300 a month if you have to pay on your own.

Umich has health insurance included in the tuition. If you have classes here you get free primary care, and some specialist access. It won't be free medication or ER insurance etc

Missing health insurance is a hidden cost that people usually don't think about -- to tell you the truth, most programs that are fully funded supply you with fees and stipend with the expectation that health insurance will be provided or paid for out of your tuition.

Besides "clear financial edge" is the difference of 10% or less between different programs, and cost of living by far outstrips that difference.
