If you are at an age where you can no longer be covered by your parents' insurance plan and/or you don't get benefits through a job, how did you obtain health insurance coverage while in PT school? My school requires coverage while enrolled and I am guessing most others have to as well.

I know the APTA offers health insurance through United Healthcare but this only seems to cover injury and sickness, not routine medical care.

How did you guys get your prescriptions and a see a doctor for routine things?

Thank you.

All the schools I've applied to do offer health insurance to the students. The costs can vary widely though, I've seen prices from less than $1K/yr to $3K+/yr. The deductibles and the coverage are probably different between plans. Read the fine print.
It'd be best if you can get coverage through the school: because of the large student body, the school gets preferential rates from insurers. And because it's a group plan, there is no discrimination against prior conditions.

I know Puget Sound has health insurance for us, but the benefits are very limited, so I just plan on getting my own health insurance.

Wondering this also, anyone qualify for state health and welfare coverage???

Usually, the university your PT program is a part of offers some type of health insurance.
