Do most schools offer student health insurance? I will be getting married and my husband-to-be will be graduating from undergrad the same time as me so I am not 100% sure if he will have a job with health insurance by the time I go to medical school.
Do all schools offer cheap student health insurance? and...
Can spouses be covered on the plans offered by the school?

Thx

Not sure about your husband. But, yes, I think all schools give you health insurance.

My school gives it to you automatically unless you send in a form to "waive" it.

is it usually expensive? i have been trying to find information about it on some of the websites for schools that i applied to but can't seem to find anything...any suggestions where to look?

My school (and I think most schools) requires you to show proof that you have health insurance coverage, and if you don't, they will automatically enroll you into the school's health plan. To give you a rough idea, for me the school plan costs approximately $1700.00 a year, the plan includes ER, prescriptios, surgical and pregnancy benefits with certain limitations and monetary detuctables. I don't know about spouses.

Do you know where I could find that information? I mean about spouses?

Oops, duplicate post

The school will usually offer insurance for spouses, although it is often much more expensive than the insurance for you. For example, my health insurance is about $700 a year while if I wanted to insure my spouse, it would be 1600 + 700.

hopkins has mandatory health insurance for all students at 250/month

wow 250 a month? geeze...good thing i will be taking out 50k in student loans each year haha...

I have been trying to find out about health insurance as well before starting school in August...at my school (UMass Med School), what I have been told so far is that health insurance for me will be $4000 a year...and if my spouse is added, it will be an additional $5200 for him (a "family plan" is added), which I found to be shockingly high...so I think we will both try to go on his health plan at work instead.

Wow that is cheap. Pitt's health insurance is almost $3000 for just the student for the year.

It better be considering the copious amount of tuition I'm paying.

Is there a good health insurance website that searches multiple different plans?
