So, we all know that we're bound to get a health care question in our upcoming interviews. THe biggest problem now, the future of it, what we'd do to improve it, etc. I'm having a rough time finding good solid info on it...and I'd like to read up so I can have a semi-intelligent answer. Anyone know of a good site or book that breaks it down into easy to understand chunks?

5 issues ago last tuesday, there was a 20 page segment in the economist about the current state of healthcare and what we can do to correct it. it was pretty interesting.

i find the economist to be a good source of news in general...it has 2 pages of "this week in the world" and then usually fairly short stories about some of the major news events.

anyone see that one with the kids in the sudan on the cover? absolutely horrible...

eh, don't go crazy about it. know some basics - e.g., what's medicare and medicaid and who qualifies for them, etc. some other basic definitions like what's an HMO, what's a PPO, etc. also, it might help to look up stuff about canada where there is a totally different healthcare system setup. i only got asked about healthcare by 1/5 interviewers last year and i know quite a few people who had several interviews and were never once asked about healthcare. the question i got asked me about weaknesses i saw in healthcare (probably the most common one) and then the interviewer proceeded to ask me if i knew anything about canada. it was a very quick mention and she said she only expected her interviewees to have a cursory knowledge of healthcare. so, don't stress. you can probably look up all the stuff you need on google or in any recent book on healthcare at your local or school's library. best of luck. ps - a book that i and others found sort of helpful is called Understanding Health Policy by Bodenheimer/Grumbach.
