I'm doing an interview with a PI for the first stage of interviewing for a CRC I position at a teaching hospital. I was wondering what type of questions I should ask the PI? I know people mention asking about research, but I don't know anything too deeply and don't want to sound like a know-it-all or acting like I know more than I do. What type of questions should I be asking?

Also, I have a few questions about the structure of the team, the relationship/interaction with PI, and how many projects I'll be overseeing. Is that appropriate to ask the PI, or should I wait for (most likely) another round of interviews and ask those questions that are more specific to the position itself later? Any help would be appreciated!

Is this your first job? What do you intend to get out of this position? You can find generic questions online, but the more interesting ones come from your own interests in working in this position. Treat it like interviewing for an internship.

Former research assistant here--I would try to find something that you're genuinely curious about that this lab does (or appears to do). The questions you listed seem fine to me. You could also ask about what the day-to-day work will look like if the PI doesn't tell you.

Also--READ THE PI'S PUBLICATIONS BEFORE THE INTERVIEW!

Ask the specific questions you have now. The fact that you might have specific questions at the first round will stand out positively
