I was wondering what major should i pick if i want to be a pharmacist?

and i dropped out of high school in 06, i Just got my GED in 08, and currently attending Houston community college. what are my chances of getting into a Pharm school? do they look at your records when you are in high school also? or just in college?

i am really commited into being a pharmacist but i dont want to pick that major yet because i know my chances might be slim cause i drop out of high school,

What classes, or things do i needs to prepare myself if i wanted to be a pharmacist?

I dont know if i posted this thread in the right section if i didnt please move it for me 😀 thanks so muchhh

Chemistry is a good one since Pharmacy requires a great amount of it (i.e. gen chem, organic chem).

or you can do biology.

Unless you're looking at a 6 year school, pharmacy schools only look at your academic record after high school. Don't worry about it, you're starting fresh!

Yea, just make sure you try very hard... in the prerequisites. Part of it is getting your study habits down, I can honestly say it took me about 2 years to figure that out, although I still blame my school for giving me such a low GPA.

Look at the FAQs located here. Those should answer a lot of your basic questions like what classes to take and what sort of extracurriculars to do. You can major in anything that you are interested in, you just need to get the required courses for admission completed. The easiest way to do that is to pick a major in one of the sciences. You actually don't even need a major because pharmacy school does not require completion of a bachelors for admission. Having a bachelors can help make you a bit more competitive though.

ooh

thanks so much for the infor guys 😀

so since i am starting fresh
i need to start a resume

should i volunteer or join any clubs in the school? which will helps me later on to go to pharm school?
or anything particular i needs to do other than studying hard?

You don't need a resume, what you will need to help boost your application are:
1. Pharmacy experience - either shadowing or work.
2. Pharmacy clubs/volunteer experiences.
3. On the lookout for potential people to write you letters of recommendation.
4. Leadership experience(s).
5. Look at what pharmacy schools you want to apply to so you can cover their pre-reqs.

so how hard is it to get inside a pharmacy school do you know?

By get inside do you mean accepted? If so it varies greatly depending on the school though they all will require a significant amount of work. Keep your gpa above at least a 3.3 and work on the things listed and you should be fine.

I would certainly have a well rounded group of extra curricular activities in what you are interested beyond pharm. Grades are certainly important but on an application you need to be a well rounded person who pops off the page as opposed to a simple number. Cheers. - Mel
