My dream is to get into medical school. I'm married and have 2 kids. I know I'm way behind everyone but I need an advice. I can't afford to go to college personally and financially. I was wondering if theres an accelerated way to get into med school and whats the requirements I need. Please help thanks

Enroll as a non-degree seeking student at an accredited 4 year university, and take the pre requisites (would take 2 years). 1st year (General Chemistry, Intro. Biology, and Intro. Physics) Second Year, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, English, and possibly Calc). I know that doesn't sort the financial aspect of your dilemma, but that's all I know.

I just remembered actually, that many/most medical schools require a Bachelors Degree by matriculation, if I'm not mistaken.

enroll part time at a community college as a degree seeking student (then you qualify for FAFSA) and you take most of your classes online with the exception of the science labs which you do in the evening/weekend. It''s hard but I did it with a job and you can get by. Start with the minimum class to qualify for aid until you get into the swing of things. If you find you can handle more you can up the hours to full time and get even more money. Your major doesn't have to be science stuff so just get a general AA but try to get all your sciences in at the CC because their schedule will have more evening/weekend classes than a 4yr university. Then when you go to university, pick the major that graduates you the fastest with the least schedule conflict for work/family (read as the most classes online) often sociology/psychology/liberal arts

There is no accelerated way or everyone else would be doing it.

I went back to school with a gpa below 3.0 at over 30 with 2 kids.....it's hard but it can done

you just need to ask yourself if you are ready for a process that will easily be 10yrs long by the time it's over

Btw I never went to college, I graduated high school outside the country so I don't have any credits. I read that I could clep some courses and that not all med school accredit it. And that some med school accepts 90 credit. I don't if that's true

by letter of the "rule" some med schools will take you with 90 credits......but in practice, it's not happening. Don't CLEP any of the standard pre-reqs, but you can clep the generic other classes

are you a citizen?

Loans help

They do for college as well.

There are some 7-year programs out there for combined BS+MD, but the only one I know of is 3 years at an expensive private undergrad and 4 years at an expensive private med school. Your most economical bet is going to be a local CC for 2 years and a local public school for 2 years.

Yes I'm a citizen. There's a cc where i most likely would attend have pre med program. If I would take full time courses, how long u think i would finish?

There is no easy way to become a doctor. Are you really sure that you want to try? There are plenty of allied health professions that don't require as much sacrifice. Especially when you have others depending on you for support.

If you can get good grades while balancing work/family and happen to luck out that all the classes you need are available the semester you need them, then you can get the BS/BA degree in 4 years

then you'll take a year applying....go ahead and start saving for application year, if you have to travel to a lot of interviews that can be costly....I had classmates spend almost $10k interviewing. I was lucky enough to get an early acceptance and stay with family while out of town and got be with about $2k in costs including the application/secondary fees
